Freedom is not easy
Now that was surreal – me and Charles being interviewed on BBC World News yesterday afternoon! Charles is a doctor from Senegal who is also a refugee in this country: he fled Senegal when his medical work helping HIV+ and LGBT communities led to him being kidnapped by an extremist group, and was only released when the group leader realised that Charles had recently delivered his twin babies. If you’d like to hear more stories from London’s refugees, come to an exhibition of my portraits ‘Freedom is not easy,’ with interviews by journalist Veronique Mistiaen, at the Proud Archivist Gallery, Hertord Road, London N1, from 12-17th July 2016.
